Enrique Caravia was born in Havana on March 13, 1905. He studied art in Villate and in San Alejandro. He moved to the United States in 1924 where he spent a year dedicating his time to studying and working with commercial art. In 1926, he entered the Diario La Marina working as an illustrator.

He went to the San Fernando School in Madrid with a scholarship to study painting and engraving, and then in Italy he studied mural decoration, fresco painting, and engraving and then lithography in Bellas Artes in Mexico.

He attended meetings of the International Bureau of Museums in Paris and London in 1948 and 1950, representing Cuba. He was president of the Municipal School for Painters and Sculptors of Havana. Enrique Caravia died in Havana on December 24, 1992.
