Miguel Cubiles de la Rosa was born in Caibarién, Las Villas, Cuba, on November 21, 1937. He left Cuba in 1961 and lived in the United States for several years. In 1980, he moved permanently to Mexico City, where he became friends with Rufino Tamayo and Jose Luis Cuevas. The artist remained in Mexico City for the rest of his life.
An autodidact, Cubiles began his professional career in 1975. He exhibited works in more than 200 collective exhibits and 37 individual shows, traversing Mexico City to reach centers such as Paris, New York, Miami, and Monterrey, San Miguel de Allende, Puebla, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Santiago de Barcelona, Seville, Andorra, Varsovia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cairo, and Tokyo.
In October of 2004, Cubiles presented the solo exhibit Thirty Years and a Cuban at the Alaide Foppa Hall of the Jose Luis Cuevas Museum.
