Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1973. A self-taught painter, sculptor and draftsman. Rigoberto Peláez’s interest in landscape painting is clearly linked to a strong preference for rural life. In his works, the artist expresses a new romantic vision of the Cuban countryside, imbuing the vegetation and sky with a sense of movement and an atmosphere of romance. Peláez, who practices open-air painting, concentrates in detailing the tonalities of light and joyous exuberance of the Cuban landscape. “I do not like urban life. The rural scene is closely linked to my spiritual world. In it, I see beyond the present and the goals I wish to pursue”, admits the artist who also manifests that his creations are in many ways connected to his love for music… “Basically, all my work is influenced by classical music. Thus, in my landscapes you can listen to the pleasing rhythms of nature’s gifts.”.
