Peña was born in Havana, Cuba in 1897. "Alberto Peña, whom we probably know as Peñita because of his stature and the spirituality of his figure, has been the painter who achieved mixing politics without falling into commercialism(…) Peñita paints what he feels, illustrating the dreadful economy that we are experiencing; representing scenes that live in the minds of all mortals with common sense. Peñita is a humanist of painting." He died in Havana, Cuba in 1938.
