Eberto Escobedo was born in 1919 in Camagüey, Cuba. In 1939, he was selected to attend the Academy San Alejandro in Havana. He had his first personal exhibition in 1946, at the Sociedad Universitaria de Bellas Artes, within the University of Havana and went on to participate in various group and solo exhibitions internationally. In 1951, his work was part of “Art Cubain Contemporain” at the Musée National D’Art Modern in Paris. His work was also featured in the show “Cuban Art: the Last Sixty Years” at the Panamerican Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas. Today, his work is in museum collections in Cuba and the United States.
His style was greatly influenced by that of his close friend and influential Cuban artist, Fidelio Ponce de Léon. This relationship can be seen in Escobedo’s darker color palatte and vigorous brushwork.
