Portrait of Julio L. Berestein
exemplifies the warm palette and soft
brushstrokes that characterized much
of Ravenet’s mature work. Incorporating
soft pinks, orange and blue-green
highlights, the artist depicts his
sitter in a reverie. The sitter is his
good friend, Berestein – an outstanding
Cuban portrait photographer in the 1940s
and ‘50s. The painting is imbued with
esteem and admiration.
