Federico Sulroca Spencer Curriculum
Federico Sulroca Spencer (1860- 1931) Born in the village of Guanabacoa, Havana, on November 25 of 1860. He studied in the San Alejandro Academy, where illustrious landscape painters like Valentin Sanz Carta and Miguel Melero were his teachers. He was very recognized for his paintings. He won the First Prize in 1905 in the contest sponsored by La Marina Journal. In 1908, the excellent landscape painting Una Puesta de Sol (A Sunset) received the greatest distinction in the Athenaeum of Havana.
In 1912 he became professor at San Alejandro School, position that he held for many years. He was teacher of the painter Wilfredo Lam, who emphasized it in several interviews. Federico Sulroca Spencer participated in numerous art courts, which evaluated new generations of artists. He was also member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
The artist passed away in Havana, on August 30 of 1931.
