Enrique Riverón could well be considered the forgotten artist of the first generation Vanguardia Cuban Painters. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba in 1902, he studied at the San Fernando Academy in Madrid in 1924 and La Grande Chaumiére in Paris in 1925 and 1926. He exhibited in Paris in 1926 and in Havana, at the Asociación de Pintores y Escultores, in 1927. Afterwards, among many solo and group shows, he exhibited at the Delphic Studios, New York (1936), and at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts (1939). In 1980, the Lowe Art Museum, Coral Gables Florida, presented a retrospective of his works from 1925 to 1950, (Works of Enrique Riverón: 1925-1950. Paris / Havana / New York, July-August 1980), while the De Armas Gallery, in Miami, Florida, completed the panoramic view of Riverón's contribution to the arts with a concurrent exhibition that included his creation from 1950 to 1980 in Wichita, Kansas and in Miami, Florida. His long and prolific career developed mostly in the United States, where he lived since 1931. Riverón passed away in Miami, Florida in 1998.
