The gifted surrealist artist Angel Acosta León
(1930-1964) amassed a collection of over one
hundred works on paper executed during the
last five years of his short but prolific career.
This salient grouping of artistic creations was
inherited by Eugenia Antonia Acosta León, sister
of the painter, upon the artist's untimely death
by suicide in 1964. Toña, as she was called by
her friends and family, kept in her possession
and protected this treasure for close to fifty
years.
These works were catalogued, studied and
documented by Dr. Rosa A. Chediak, who authored
the book Angel Acosta León and His Magic, 2013 -
a 200 page publication where all the renditions
of this collection are illustrated. Cernuda Arte
is pleased to have made the acquisition of this
unique trove of paintings by Acosta León.
