(Muchacha con Flor), ca.1950
gouache on heavy paper laid down on board
21 x 14 inches

Illustrated in IMPORTANT CUBAN ARTWORKS,
Provenance:
Time, Dimension and Color Gallery, Coral Gables, Florida.

“With the Italian masters of the Quattrocento, [Víctor Manuel]
assimilated a gentle Renaissance atmosphere. The lessons of
subtle luminous volumes, deprived of the burdensome
chiaroscuro and the elegant simplicity of the discreetly curious
contours, he learned from the Japonisme of Monet and the
French post impressionists. From Modigliani, he took the
juxtaposition of the tonal contrast, the sustained neatness of
the harmonious facial features and the preferred taste for the
Asian eyes. But all of these ingredients are transformed by
Víctor Manuel in the elaboration of his unique, totally personal
form of expression.”
